Ce musicien de studio a une très grande carrière, en travaillant avec de nombreux grands du jazz (Louis Armstrong, Benny Carter, Cab Calloway, ou Lionel Hampton).
En 1943, il rejoint l'orchestre de Raymond Scott à la radio CBS. CBS radio orchestra.
En 1953, il fonde à New York une école de batteur avec Gene Krupa et dirige dans les années 50's le COZY COLE COMBO, qui se produit régulièrement au Metropole de New York. Le combo enregistre un instrumental avec Cole à la batterie appelé 'Topsy'. Ce titre devient un énorme tube.
Il continue de tourner avec Jonah Jones, Cab Calloway, et d'autres artistes jusqu'à ce qu'il se retire de la scène musicale au milieu des années 70.
