Guitariste Américain né le 26 avril 1938 à Corning, New York - USA. Il grandit à Tucson, Arizona et s'intéresse à la guitare. Encouragé par sa famille qui lui offre une Les Paul pour son treizième anniversaire, il étudie la guitare country en écoutant les disques de Chet ATKINS et apprend avec le guitariste de jazz Jim WYBELE.
En 1955, il joue avec le guitariste Al CASEY , leader du combo les ARIZONA HAYRIDERS. La même année il grave en compagnie de Jimmy DELBRIDGE (avec qui il partage le vocal), un premier single pour le label Preston, sous le nom de JIMMY & DUANE.
En 1956 Duane EDDY & HIS ROCKABILLIES sortent un single sur le label Ford, mais d'après Jim GRANT, Duane bien que crédité n'aurait pas participé à cette session. Lee AZLEWOOD engage Duane Eddy. En novembre 1957, Duane et sa Twangy guitare rejoint les REBELS (Groupe constitué en majorité de saxophonistes). Ils enregistrent un superbe instrumental composé par Lee HAZLEWOOD et lui-même, le fameux "Moovin' n' Groovin'", qui est un succès en février 1958. Les REBELS est à l'époque un groupe instrumental incluant de fameux musiciens comme Larry KNECHTEL aux claviers et Steve DOUGLAS au sax.
Le saxo ténor a un rôle important et serait tenu d'après New Kommotion, par Plas JOHNSON alors que l'album "Have 'Twangy' Guitar Will Travel" indique Steve DOUGLAS pour tous les titres. Quoi qu'il en soit Duane s'impose définitivement en juin 1958 avec 'Rebel Rouser' (Gil BERNAL au Sax ?) suivi la même année de 'Ram Rod' et 'Cannonball'.
Duane a eu à l'époque neuf albums placés dans les charts, le plus vendu étant 'Have Twanguy Guitar Will Travel' en 1959. Le style unique de Duane Eddy était produit par l'utilisation d'un instrument particulier qui provoquait un trémolo durable (écho et "Tape delay"), ajouté à cela le 'Twanguy sound' provoqué par l'utilisation des cordes basses au lieu des hautes sur sa guitare Gretsh (Gretsh 6120 rouge de 1956), pour jouer les mélodies et ponctué de temps en temps de hurlements rauques.
Dans les années 70, Eddy travaille comme producteur aux Etats-Unis et entre dans les Charts anglais en 1975.
Eddy y rentre à nouveau en 1986 lorsque Art of Noise (Studio anglais), collabore avec lui pour sortir une nouvelle version électronique de "Peter Gunn".
Il enregistre encore de nos jours.
