Ce pianiste et arrangeur est présent comme musicien dans de nombreuses sessions
de rock'n'roll et de rythm'n'blues des années 50.
Il travaille pour Specialty, Modern ou Aladdin et derrière des artistes comme Duane EDDY,
Johnny Burnette, the CRICKETTS, Bobby Vee, Buddy Knox ou encore Les Platters.
Il sort des albums instrumentaux pour son propre compte notamment chez Imperial. 'Jivin' Around' et 'Lost Dreams' datent de 1956. Il obtient un hit avec la reprise 'Raunchy' de Bill JUSTIS en 1957'.
Il enregistre de la easy -listening sous le pseudonyme de "Sir Chauncey".
En 1962, il obtient un hit dans BILLY JOE & The CHECKMATES avec 'Percolator (Twist)'.
Sa carrière solo décline dans les années 60 mais il continue de travailler avec des vedettes comme Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin ou Sammy Davis Jr. chez 'Reprise'. A la fin des années 70 il effectue des arrangements pour l'album 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' de Simon and Garfunkel.
Il décède en 1981.
