Deux musiciens créent les Hypnomen en 1994. Ils jouent des instros influencés par Link Wray. Le duo se transforme bientôt en trio et commencent à enregistrer sur leur propre matériel.
Ils sortent un vinyl avant même de jouer en public. Ensuite, ils deviennent le groupe maison d'un show de jeux vidéos suédois, enregistrent en studio, jouent dans des clubs et participent à divers festivals. Leur premier album 'Supersonico' sort en 1997.
Après un LP, un mini-LP et un certain nombre de simples, la formation passe en quartet puis en quintet. Avec ces nouveaux musiciens, leur style évolue vers un style plus coloré et rythmé. Leur son est baigné d'orgue Hammond, de guitares fuzz guitars et de percussions.
