The FANTOM SURFERS se forment en 1988. Ils se composent alors des guitaristes Johnny BARTLETT et Mel BERGMAN, du bassiste Mike LUCAS, et du batteur Danny SEELIG. Sur scène il portent des masques de 'Lone Rangers'.
Leur premier LP '18 Deadly Ones' est suivi par une foule de 45 tours et des albums sur quantité de labels dont deux avec Dick DALE ou Davie ALLAN. Seelig quitte le groupe pour rejoindre les Hi-Fives et il est remplacé par le batteur Russell QUAN.
