Le groupe formé en 1993 à San Francisco est dirigé par deux guitaristes Ferenc Dobronyi et Jono Jones. Le got de ces derniers pour les sons mystérieux et exotiques et leurs influences venant de Dick DALE, Frank ZAPPA et le jazz d'avant garde les font ressortir de la scène de San Francisco.
La musique instrumentale de POLLO DEL MAR a été décrite comme 'une musique érotique douce et suave'. Un style expérimental et ouvert du surf instrumental des années 60, mystérieux, sombre et mélodique.
Ferenc Dobronyi qui est aussi un excellent graphiste, a été responsable artistique du coffret de 40 CD consacré à Franck Zappa en 1985 par Rykodisc et r°alise en plus des pochettes de POLLO DEL MAR, des couvertures d'albums pour des compilations (ex : Guitar Ace, Compilations KFJC), d'autres artistes surf (ex : The Alvarados, Boss Martians, Insect Surfers, Los Mel-Tones, Slacktone, etc.) ou non (ex : Baka Beyond, Solomon Burke, Elvis Costello, Edi Fitzroy, Morphine, etc.) ainsi que des affiches, des posters et couverture de livres.
"Pollo Del Mar drags surf music kicking and screaming into the new millinneum, updating the classic sound of twangy, reverb soaked Fender guitars by mixing in layers of atmospheric feedback, and pummeling into ocean depths with a powerhouse rhythm section. Pollo Del Mar deploys original songs, vintage surf tunes, arrangements of songs by Frank Zappa, Henry Mancini, and The Dead Kennedys The band recently released their third successful studio album, "The Golden State" and toured Northern Europe in front of enthusiastic fans.
