The STRAITJACKETS composé de Eddie ANGEL, Jimmy LESTER and Danny AMIS se forme en 1988 à Nashville. Le groupe joue pendant un été et se sépare.
En mai 1994, cet excellent groupe de surf rock se reforme et Scott ESBECK les rejoint. Ils prennent le nom de Los STRAITJACKETS.
Ils décident d'enregistrer au grand studio de Nashville, produit par Ben VAUGHN, ce qui deviendra plus tard l'album 'The Utterly Fantastic And Totally Unbelievable Sounds Of...'. Ils jouent également leur premier engagement au Lucy's Record Shop de Nashville. Toujours la même année, ils signent chez Upstart Records.
L'année suivante, après avoir été plébiscités à Nashville aux 1er NAMMIE awards comme Meilleur groupe non produit et
Jimmy Lester comme meilleur batteur, ils réalisent le 45 tour 'Gatecrasher / Lonely Apache'.
Ensuite ils sortent leur premier CD chez Upstart Records : 'The Utterly Fantastic And Totally Unbelievable Sounds Of...' et partent en
tournée, faisant un crochet par la côte Ouest.
Fin de 1995, ils passent au Late Night avec Conan O'Brien sur NBC Television.
En 1996 ils enregistrent leur deuxième album, 'Viva Los Straitjackets'. Ils sont nominés pour trois récompenses aux 2èmes NAMMIE awards,
pour le Meilleur groupe, meilleur album rock et meilleure couverture d'album. L'album sort chez Upstart Records.
Ils passent une nouvelle fois au Late Night avec Conan O'Brien sur NBC Television et tournent régulièrement.
Trois 45 tours 'Pacifica / Kawanga!' et 'Marshmallow World / Sleighride' ainsi que 'La Plaga / Que Mala' avec Big Sandy sortent cette année
sur Spinout Records.
L'année 1997 débute avec des concerts au 'The Fillmore' de San Francisco (Californie) avec Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.
Une fois encore, Los STRAITJACKETS sont nominés aux 3ème NAMMIE awards comme Meilleur album instrumental et Eddie Angel comme meilleur guitariste
Entre les tournées, il participent aux X-Games sur ESPN et Oddville sur MTV.
Ensuite, ils tournent avec Link WRAY .
Ils participent au Late Night with Conan O'Brien sur NBC Television puis partent en tournée en Espagne.
1998: leur tournée en espagne se termine sur un succès. Après avoir enregistré un titre pour une compilation, ils partent pour la Hollande et poursuivent leur tournée en Russie. En septembre, il commencent à enregistrer leur troisième album avec Ben Vaughn. C'est alors que Scott Esbeck quitte le groupe. Il est remplacé à la basse par Pete CURRY ( The HALIBUTS ). Ils terminent leur enregistrement et Pete CURRY devient un membre du groupe. Ils repartent en tournée à la fin de 1998.
Une nouvelle tournée à travers les Etats-Unis reprend en 1999. Ils sortent leur troisième album chez Calvalcade
'The Velvet Touch of Los Straitjackets'. Il repartent pour la promotion de cet album et se produisent à Las Vegas.
Le groupe est sollicité pour faire la première partie de Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers au 'Irvine Meadows' à Irvine (Californie)
avant de continuer leur route.
Ils font leur quatrième apparition au Late Night with Conan O'Brien. Il repartent sur les routes avec le groupe 'The Reverand Horton Heat'
et terminent à San Franciso.
L'année 2000 commence par une petite tournée au Texas et dans le MidWest et une enregistrement
avec Lou Whitney des Skeletons.
Puis la tournée avec 'The Reverand Horton Heat' reprend, entrecoupée d'une escapade au Mexique. A Nashville, ils enregistrent avec Le
Reverand Horton Heat. Il s'agit en fait du commencement d'un projet d'enregistrement avec des chanteurs.
Cela continue avec The Trashmen, Nick Lowe et Raul Malo de 'The Mavericks'.
Ils jouent au Rock& Roll Hall Of Fame à Cleveland.
Ils assurent une participation au film 'Psycho Beach Party' par leur présence et leur musique. Durant leur passage en Californie,
ils filment une vidéo pour 'Tempest', enregistre un live au Foothill Club de Long Beach (Californie).
Une tournée les fait voyager à New York pour un show en haut du World Trade Center et à Minneapolis pour un concert avec The TRASHMEN .
Pendant tous ces déplacements ils continuent d'enregistrer avec des chanteurs (El Vez, Big Sandy, Dave Alvin, Exene, Mike Campbell, Mark Lindsay, Steve Earle, Alison Moorer et Leigh Nash ).
En décembre, ils jouent à Dallas (Texas) où les rejoint The Reverand Horton Heat. Ils font une vidéo de ce concert.
Le simple 'Los Straitjackets at The Drive-In' est réalisé en Espagne en 2001. Ils sortent également l'album Live
'Damas y Caballeros, Los Straitjackets', enregistré lors de leur passage au Foothill Club de Long Beach.
Leur projet d'album avec des chanteurs 'Sing Along With Los Straitjackets' sort sur Calvacades records.
