Groupe instrumental de Seattle dirigé par le guitariste Don WILSON , qui fut comparé aux SHADOWS anglais mais qui resta pendant plus de deux décennies l'un des groupes instrumentaux les plus populaires à travers le monde.
En 1959, Don Wilson lave des voitures à Tacoma, Washington, en écoutant des disques de Duane EDDY. Il rencontre Bob Bogle qui, lui, préfère un autre as de la guitare, Chet Atkins. Don et Bob travaillent cet instrument, se produisent le soir après leur travail dans des surboums et des petits clubs sous le nom des IMPACTS puis des VERSATONES et enfin des VENTURES. Viennent ensuite le batteur Skip MOORE et Nokie EDWARDS. Ce dernier prend la guitare, Bob BOGLE passe alors à la basse.
Leur premier succès, les VENTURES l'obtiennent de 'Walk Don't Run' (morceau composé par le guitariste de jazz Johnny Smith) qu'ils transforment en simplifiant les accords et en lui donnant un tempo rock.
Ce morceau est enregistré sur un petit label, un de leur copain DJ le passe toutes les heures en indicatif avant les informations. Une personne de Dolton, filiale de liberty, engage les Ventures. 'Walk Don't Run' est N∞1 des charts aux USA en 1961. Très vite les succès s'enchainent et dans la mÕme année, ils classent encore cinq de leurs titres 'Perfidia', 'Telstar', 'Surfing', 'I Walk The Line' et 'Let's Go'.
En 1969, on les verra encore dans les hit-parades avec le thème musical du feuilleton télévisé "Hawaï Five-O". Don WILSON continua à enregistrer une série d'albums en compagnie de musiciens de studio de Los Angeles.

Le premier batteur fut George BABITT en mai 1959 pour le single Blue Horizon N°100: Cookies and Coke / The Real Mc Coy, avec seulement Don Wilson et Bob Bogle aux guitares et Don vocal.Le label Blue Horizon était produit par la mère de Don: Josie Wilson.
Les débuts officiels des Ventures datent de mars 1960, avec le single Dolton N° 25: WDR / Home , réédité en juillet N° 25X avec The Mc Coy à la place de Home.
En juin 63, suite à un accident de voiture de Hoovie, il est remplacé par Mel TAYLOR. Les albums vont se succéder à un rythme effreiné. Création des guitares MOSRITE. Nokie quittera les Ventures en mai 68, remplacé par Gerry Mc GEE. Puis en mai 69, arrivera John Durrill à l'orgue (tenue en studio par Leon Russel, jusque-là).
Jerry Mc Gee quitte le groupe en octobre 71; Bob Bogle le remplace et Larry Taylor vient à la basse. En juillet 72, Nokie revient dans le groupe à l'occasion de la 10ème tournée au Japon; En janvier 73, Mel Taylor quitte les Ventures pour former un autre groupe: The DYNAMICS, avec Jerry Mc Gee, John Durrill, Bob Spalding et Bill Lincoln. C'est Joe Barile, le percussionniste d'alors, qui remplace Mel jusqu'en 1979, quand Mel revient en juillet 79, et le come-back reprend, avec la plupart des albums enregistrés au Japon, studio et live. Le groupe "original" est reformé jusqu'en 1985, lorsque Nokie quitte pour enregistrer et tourner en solo, avec des groupes différents selon les pays d'accueil. C'est Jerry Mc Gee qui le remplace à nouveau en 1988 pour la 23ème tournée au Japon. Les cd's sont enregistrés chez INSIDEOUT, filiale de TOSHIBA / EMI. Mel Taylor décède le 11 août 1996, suite à une pneumonie survenue au cours de la 32ème tournée. Bruce Gary ( ex KNACK) le remplace au pied levé pour la suite de la tournée qui redémarre N° 33 du 21 au 30 septembre. ET Léon remplace son père à partir de janvier 97. Depuis 1999 (37 & 38 ème tournées), The Ventures effectuent deux tournées par an, au Japon: en janvier avec Nokie Edwards, et en été, avec Jerry Mc Gee, (+ Don, Bob et Léon ).
